Enrollment & Registration

Welcome to the Poway Unified School District, where we empower world-class learners!  We are a nationally renowned public school district that proudly educates 34,000 students throughout 41 award-winning schools.

We are so happy to welcome you to our district! Poway Unified enrollment and registration processes are organized into the following categories:

New Student Enrollment: This is for any student that is new to PUSD, including Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students, even if their siblings are already PUSD students. New Student Enrollment for the current school year (24-25) and next school year (25-26) are both open now.

Continuing Student Registration: This registration option is for students currently enrolled in Poway Unified schools grades TK-11, who will be returning for the following school year. For the 2025-2026 school year, this window will re-open May 5.

Intra-District Transfer Window: An intra-district transfer request is for those who live within PUSD boundaries, but would like their child(ren) to attend a school other than their school of residence. This includes incoming siblings of current students.

Preschool Enrollment: Registration is open year-round! PUSD Preschool Programs are for families with 3 year olds and offers age-appropriate, dynamic lessons, nurturing environments, and foundational learning.

ELEMENTARY EXTENDED STUDENT SERVICES BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

New Student Enrollment for Grades TK-5 for the 2025-2026 school year does not automatically enroll students in the Extended Student Services (ESS) before and/or after school program. A separate application process for ESS is required for all new students.

Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, new applications to the ESS program will be centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list. Information on how to apply for ESS for the upcoming school year, will be available on the ESS webpage starting on January 19, 2024.

Submitting an application for ESS does not guarantee participation in the program. It is anticipated that the demand for the ESS program will exceed the program capacity at most schools. Should a site be determined near capacity for ESS enrollment, a lottery process may be necessary to determine new student placement in the program.

Students in Grades TK-4 participating in the ESS program during the current school year, will be considered continuing students and will not need to re-apply. New, incoming siblings of current ESS students will also be considered as "continuing" for registration purposes. Continuing students will receive continuing registration information directly from the ESS Site Supervisor by January 19, 2024.

Students in Grades TK-4 currently on an ESS waitlist for the program must apply as a new student to the program for the 2025-2026 school year.

SECONDARY - MIDDLE SCHOOL

New Students in Grades 6-8 can apply for the ESS Bridge Program through the single application and interest list mentioned above.

ALL OTHER MIDDLE SCHOOLS

New Students in Grades 6-8 can apply for the ASES Program directly through the middle school site during or after “Fifth Grade Parent Night” (informational meeting for parents of incoming 6th Grade students in 2025-2026). Check your middle school’s website for information on when this meeting will be held (typically February or March).

During the 2025-2026 school year, new applications to the ASES Program will still be managed directly by each school site. Please visit our ASES Program webpage for general information and a directory to contact your middle school’s ASES Supervisor.
