EL Personnel

The school’s principal is responsible for the English learner program at each school.  The individual classroom teachers are responsible to make sure that the English learners in their class(es) receive the instruction that is appropriate for them.  All certificated teachers at all grade levels (TK-12) who have English learners must have the state’s Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) certification.   In addition, each school has at least one teacher who is the school’s English Learner Program Coordinator and serves as a liaison between the district and the school’s English Learner Program.  All schools also have at least one English Learner Program Instructional Assistant (IA) who helps the regular classroom teachers provide appropriate instruction for the English learner students.  The IA may also work with small groups of students for extra support.
