Poway and Mt. Carmel High Schools are the first and largest schools to undergo various renovations, modernizations, and additions because of Proposition U funding.

The work was accomplished in three phases, with final completion in October 2007. These phases were structured to ensure that priority work listed in the PropositionU list of facility improvements was accomplished first. The softball field work in Phase I was the preparatory work for Phase II construction of the new 80,000 sq.ft. two-story classroom addition which replaced existing re-locatable classrooms. Phase II work included exterior renovations in existing buildings. Phase III work included extensive renovations in existing buildings.

Projects completed at Poway under Proposition U include:
  • Add/renovate science classrooms
  • ADA upgrades/compliance
  • Expand/renovate food service/lunch shelter
  • Site/grounds improvements for safety compliance
  • Add/upgrade furniture and instructional equipment
  • Upgrade/replace communications and fire alarm systems
