2019 State of the District

 Dr BurksThe Poway Unified School District hosted its Second Annual State of the District event on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The goal of the event was to highlight staff and student accomplishments, set strategic goals and initiatives for the future, cultivate strong business and community partnerships, and share stories of excellence and innovation. Superintendent Phelps and Cabinet members detailed the progress the District has been able to make under new leadership, and the direction PUSD is headed next. Carol Osborne
 
Using PUSD’s new Vision Statement of “creating culture and conditions to empower world class learners” as the theme, the event incorporated a performance from Poway High School’s Emerald Brigade Drumline as well as songs sung in Mandarin by Adobe Bluffs Elementary School’s Immersion Program. Guests were greeted as they arrived by students from Dr. Phelps’ Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Two ASB students from Oak Valley led the pledge of allegiance, along with the presentation of colors by Westview High School’s NJROTC color guard. Board President Dr. Darshana Patel welcomed distinguished guests and outlined the new Board Goals. The student speaker was PUSD Student Board Member Mariana Akins from Rancho Bernardo High School, who spoke about various teachers’ impact on her education. We want to thank all of our stakeholders who attended, for your continued support and partnership.
