Community Advisory Committee
Our Mission
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) promotes and encourages positive connections among students, parents, and PUSD by providing guidance in special education so all students become successful, lifelong learners.
Who is the CAC?
The CAC shall be comprised of parents and individuals with exceptional needs enrolled in public, non-public or private schools receiving services, parents of other students enrolled in schools, adults with disabilities, general and special education teachers, other school personnel, and persons concerned with the needs of individuals with exceptional needs. The majority of the committee is composed of parents of students with exceptional needs who are enrolled in schools within the Local Plan Area. The maximum voting membership for the CAC in PUSD is between 15 and 18. CAC members are appointed by the BOE.
What is the CAC?
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) serves in an advisory capacity to the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and the Board of Education. Recommendations from the CAC incorporate parent, professional, and community input. These recommendations are made through the District liaison to the SELPA at the regularly scheduled business meetings. Recommendations come in the form of position papers, correspondence, subcommittee reports, or decisions at CAC business meetings. The CAC presents at least one report of activities to the Board of Education each academic year.
What does the CAC do?
CAC represent the perspectives of the special education community broadly, avoiding a focus on any particular disability. We support activities on behalf of individuals with exceptional needs. We invest and assist in the development of parent awareness of the importance of regular school attendance. Each year we participate in the review of the annual budget and service plan.
