Back to School Reminders

welcome back!

Dear PUSD Families,

We are so excited to welcome you and your children to a new school year! Here is some general information that new and returning families may find helpful:

Start & Dismissal Times

Your school’s start and dismissal time may have changed for the 2024-25 school year or for the first day of school. You can check times on the powayusd.com website here or visit your school website and click on the “Schedule” button to check for any changes to the bell schedules. Here is a list to access all PUSD school websites.

Free Breakfast & Lunch

Under California’s Universal Meals Program, free breakfast (before school) and free lunch will continue to be offered to all students every day, regardless of household income. To view monthly menus, go here. Students may arrive for breakfast 20-25 minutes before the morning bell, but please check with your school for the earliest arrival time.

Downloadable Back to School to Signs

We LOVE seeing your first day photos! Download and print a Back to School 2024-25 Sign HERE to commemorate the start of a new grade level. Personalize it, take a photo, and post it on social media using the #PUSDBacktoSchool hashtag and tagging @powayunified (or email [email protected] by this Friday at noon) for a chance to be featured in our beginning of the year slideshow.

Traffic & Safety Reminders

Please practice patience in the first several weeks of school and leave home early to get to school on time; several of our schools have new start times and families are getting used to their new schedules. Watch for e-bikes, bicyclists, pedestrians, and crossing guards; stop for buses that have their stop sign out and blinking lights on; and remember the speed limit in school zones. Also, please remind your children to remain alert (not on their phones) and follow safety rules when walking or biking to and from school.

Attendance Reminders

As we begin a new school year, it’s important for families to establish good attendance habits to help our students to be at school every day and on time. This ensures their best opportunity for academic and social success. Maintain a regular bedtime and morning routine, schedule medical appointments and family vacations outside of school hours or during school breaks, and let your child’s school counselor, teacher, or principal know if you are experiencing barriers or hardship in getting your child to school; there may be assistance available. If your child must be absent, contact your school’s attendance office to provide the reason for the absence.

See you August 21st!
