The Poway Unified School District’s elementary X-Ploration/Global Languages Program has been selected as the Classroom of the Future Foundation’s (CFF) Achieve Award recipient for the 21st Annual Innovation in Education Awards. X-Ploration will be recognized at CFF"s Annual Awards Ceremony on May 16, 2024, at SeaWorld San Diego, for demonstrating innovation in the classroom driving student learning and positive student outcomes.
Now in its 8th year, X-Ploration is an innovative model of instruction that provides all elementary school students at every elementary school in the Poway Unified School District with content specific learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Visual and Performing Arts (such as dance, music, and theater), Coding, and Physical Education. A team of 20 highly experienced and energized credentialed teachers visit 2-3 elementary schools throughout PUSD per day, providing engaging standards aligned lessons to every classroom of students. X-Ploration includes a pilot program integrating the WongAvery Global Languages and Culture such as Mandarin, Korean, Tagalong, and American Sign Language to the learning experiences. The addition of the WongAvery Global Language promotes a culture of curiosity and inclusivity beginning at a young age.
“We are so honored and proud of this achievement. We thank our hard-working X-Ploration Teachers and Global Language and Culture Instructors for providing exciting and creative programs for our Poway Unified students, to empower them to become future-ready, globally-connected learners,” said Eddie Park, Director of Global Languages and Innovative Programs.
Winners of the Achieve Award are presented with a $5,000 grant to be used towards their program. The X-Ploration team plans to use this grant to provide students with supplementary learning tools as well as to be able to continue leveraging partnerships with local and international organizations to expand the global language learning offerings.
