Abraxas High Teacher Bob Lutticken Named Parade Grand Marshal

The Parade Grand Marshal for the Poway Rotary Parade this year is Bob Lutticken, who exemplifies the theme through his work as a teacher at Abraxas Continuation High School in Poway.

Parade Grand Marshal Bob Lutticken, center, with Parade Chairperson Karen Herreros and Rotary Club President Dan Brenner.

“It’s quite an honor,” Lutticken said. “Not that many people get to be the Grand Marshal. It’s pretty exciting.”

Lutticken teaches biology, agriculture, aquaponics and runs the Abraxas Garden. Along with teaching teens the value of growing food and working in agriculture, he leads the students in sharing their harvest with the community.

The Community Care group picks up the harvest and distributes it to 230 families in the Poway Unified School District who are considered food scarce and senior living facilities, Lutticken said. The garden has so far provided more than 16,000 pounds of produce to families in need, he said.'

The parade is set for 9 to 11 a.m. on Poway Road between Pomerado and Bowron roads.

Participants will include a variety of floats, PUSD high school bands, military members, equestrians and Poway Rodeo representatives.
