(San Diego, CA ) - Last Monday, the Poway Unified School District Office hosted a promising job fair, providing candidates with a chance to interview for various high-need classified employee positions within PUSD. 80 candidates walked out with same-day job offers following this unique "one-stop shop" employment opportunity.
The job fair featured the following open positions, including:
- Instructional Assistant I/II for Special Education
- Instructional Aide - Preschool
- Program Aide - ESS (Extended School Services)
- Program Aide - ASES (After School Education and Safety)
- Food & Nutrition I
- Noon Duty
- Crossing Guard
- Instructional Aide - Preschool
- Program Aide - ESS (Extended School Services)
- Program Aide - ASES (After School Education and Safety)
- Food & Nutrition I
- Noon Duty
- Crossing Guard
Applicants were assigned specific time slots for their initial and follow-up interviews, tailored to the position they had applied for. Candidates were also offered an invaluable opportunity to engage with representatives from Black Mountain Middle School, Del Norte High School, and other Poway Unified schools. This interaction allowed them to gain a better understanding of the school environment and the roles they aspired to fill.
For Mrs. Charity Chambers, the Same Day Hiring Fair proved to be a positive experience. She found the event to be a much more efficient and preferable process compared to the traditional job hunt. As a former stay-at-home mom who reentered the workforce in 2021, Mrs. Chambers had previously worked in retail before discovering her passion for working with children as a teacher's aide. "I fell in love with the kids and enjoyed building relationships with them," Mrs. Chambers expressed. With an open mind and excitement, she attended the job fair, hoping to secure a position as an instructional assistant. Fortunately, her efforts paid off, and she walked away with an offer to become an Instructional Assistant for Special Education.
The PUSD Same Day Hiring Fair is a great way to find a fulfilling and meaningful job in an award-winning school district, but is especially important during this time as San Diego's unemployment rate has increased to 4%, the highest since February 2022. PUSD takes pride in employing over 4,000 teachers and classified staff, and remains committed to expanding job availability and employment opportunities.
