Poway Unified Student-Led Event Encourages 8th Graders and Their Parents to Pursue Passion, Not Perfection in High School

Pursuing Passion Not Perfection invite(San Diego, CA) – The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) is excited to announce an upcoming event that is designed to help 8th graders and their parents embrace a healthier approach to high school. The "Pursuing Passion, Not Perfection" event, led by the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC), will take place on Wednesday, April 19th, from 6-8 pm at the Design39 Campus.

The transition from middle school to high school can be a challenging time for many students and their families. With so many options and pathways available, it can be difficult to know where to start.

“Students may feel the pressure to overload their schedules with as many extracurricular and Advanced Placement classes as possible, without considering their strengths, interests, or passions. That's why the SSAC is hosting this event, to help students and parents navigate this important time in their lives,” explained Prisha Puntambekar, SSAC member and PUSD Student Board Member.

The event is being held in partnership with PUSD high school counselors, student support specialists, and the Career Technical Education (CTE) Department.

"Pursuing Passion, Not Perfection" will feature a panel of expert speakers, including UC San Diego Executive Director of Admissions Blia Yang and PUSD Career Guidance Technician and CTE Teacher Jamal Felton who will share their personal stories and insights on how to pursue passions and find your career path. There will also be a question and answer session with graduating seniors, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask panelists what they wished they knew before starting high school. Topics will include time management, finding balance, and seeking mental health and social-emotional resources.
