The Poway Unified School District is proud to announce the appointment of Westview High School junior, Nirja Trivedi, as the 2023-24 Student Board Member.On April, 3, 2023, 8 finalists from high schools across PUSD were interviewed by a Board sub-committee, consisting of the Superintendent, two Board Members, Chief Communications Officer, and the current Student Board Member. The subcommittee recommended Nirja as their final selection. Haley LaRose of Mt. Carmel was named the alternate, if, for any reason, Nirja is unable to serve.
“Nirja impressed the committee with her passion for bringing non-partisan political awareness, civil discourse, and civic participation to young people and speaking up for those without a voice. Her application was quite impressive, and she will represent students well,” said Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim Phelps. Nirja is also a gifted public speaker and communicator, competing in State and National Speech and Debate Tournaments. As a Girl Scout, she volunteers for Operation Courage is Beautiful, which sends care packages for women in the military.
Nirja’s term of office will be her senior year, starting with the August 2023 board meeting and concluding with the June 2024 meeting. Her duties will include providing continuing input for Board deliberations (excluding discipline, personnel, and employer-employee relations), strengthening communications between the Board and students, and representing all students and facilitating the discussion of all sides of an issue.
