Del Norte High Biomedical Student Honored as "Star Student" Leading Up to Annual "White Coat Ceremony"

Del Norte High School Junior Shefali Chaubey has been presented with the ‘Star Student’ award by ROSALIND, a San Diego-based biotech company and donor to the PUSD Foundation. Shefali was surprised in her classroom on Monday, April 24, during her class with science teacher Ms. Courtney Craig, who nominated Shefali. Photos and b-roll from the surprise can be found here.

Shefali ChaubeyShefali is a part of Del Norte’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Biomedical Pathway. She first took Biomedical Science classes her sophomore year, doubling up in Principles of Biomedical Science and Human Body Systems while also being enrolled in AP Biology. Shefali will complete the Biomedical Pathway in June after finishing her Honors Medical Interventions course.
In addition to her CTE pathway involvement, Shefali is an integral part of Del Norte’s chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals. She also served as a Clinical Science, Technology and Medicine summer intern at the Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institute and continued in a research role throughout the school year. Her involvement, dedication and success in these programs and classes made her an ideal candidate for ROSALIND to honor. "We're thrilled to present the Star Student award to Shefali. Her accomplishments and passion for Biomedical Science is an inspiration to us all," said Tim Wesselman, CEO of Rosalind. "Transforming the future of human health requires that we recognize and develop our future leaders today."

The Star Student award comes in conjunction with the annual White Coat Ceremony at Del Norte High School. This tradition recognizes all students who have completed the Biomedical Pathway courses on campus. During the ceremony, students are presented with a white lab coat embroidered with their name, much like what would happen upon completion of a Medical Degree program. This year, ROSALIND has generously sponsored the event by providing the white coats. Students and families are invited to attend this
celebratory coat adornment followed by a dessert reception which will be held Tuesday, April 25 at 6PM in the Del Norte Quad. Congratulations to Shefali and all of the Biomedical Pathway students!
