(San Diego, CA) – The 2023 Broadway San Diego Awards announced their 20 finalists for San Diego’s top high school musical theatre performers. Poway Unified is proud to announce that three PUSD students are among the nominees:
❖ Katie Ditter, Westview High School (Belle in “Beauty and the Beast”)
❖ David Azcona, Westview High School (The Beast in “Beauty and the Beast”)
❖ Tyler Sanderlin, Del Norte High School (Edward in “Big Fish – School Edition”)
The winners will be announced in a ceremony at the Balboa Theatre on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Student nominees for Best Actors/Actresses must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in a San Diego public or private high school participating in the BSDA. Student applicants must be nominated by their school and theatre educator they are representing. To compete in the Best Actor or Best Actress category, a student must be in an approved musical and a qualifying role. A comprehensive list of eligible roles can be found at JimmyAwards.com.
The Broadway San Diego Awards Program
The Broadway San Diego Awards is a local high school musical theatre competition sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union celebrating excellence in high school musical theatre.
As the San Diego chapter of the Jimmy Awards® (National High School Musical Theatre Awards®), students that are cast in compliance with the Rules and Regulations of The Jimmy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, will be adjudicated in their high school production, and eligible to be nominated for The Jimmy Awards. The two finalists from the Jimmy Awards category at the Broadway San Diego Awards will join dozens of other finalists from regional competitions across the country for a weeklong experience called Camp Broadway, which includes rehearsals, workshops, lectures and field trips, designed to prepare the
students for The Jimmy Awards®, which will be presented on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre on June 26, 2023.
