ADVANCED ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)


Advanced ELA (7th Grade)

Course description:

The 7th  grade Advanced English-Language Arts (ELA) class is designed for students who demonstrate strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.   This course encourages students to grow and take risks as they encounter high-level reading and writing tasks, which extend beyond grade level standards.  Throughout the year, students will build an individualized portfolio of writing samples with an emphasis on explanatory, argumentative, and narrative writing.  Students will also have consistent opportunities to write creatively and share their writing with others.    

Application Process: 

Interested students must complete and submit THIS APPLICATION FORM by Friday, May 8th, 2020.  The application form should be filled out by students, not parents. Eligible applicants will be entered into a computer-based lottery, which will determine the class roster for next year.  If you have a question, please email Aimee Corbin (acorbin@powayusd.com).  

 

Advanced ELA (6th Grade)

The 6th grade Advanced English-Language Arts (ELA) class is designed for students who demonstrate strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.  This course encourages students to grow and take risks as they encounter high-level reading and writing tasks, which extend beyond grade level standards.  Students will learn to respond critically and analyze text for deeper meaning.  Throughout the year, students will build an individualized portfolio of writing samples with an emphasis on explanatory, argumentative, and narrative writing.  Students will also have consistent opportunities to write creatively and share their writing with others.
