Who we are:

The Meadowbrook Education Foundation ("MEF") is a tax exempt, non-profit foundation dedicated to increasing the technology resources available in the school . MEF's mission is raising funds to provide resources to Meadowbrook that can improve the quality of the educational environment. Since it's inception, MEF has focused primarily on technology investments consistent with the Meadowbrook technology strategy, as established by the principal and school staff. MEF is comprised of parents, educators, and other members of the community that want to help ensure that our students have the technology and other resources that they need to succeed.

MEF Volunteer Positions

The MEF volunteer positions are described in this document. Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, usually from September – June, starting at 7:00 a.m.

July Prepare for Registration
 
  • Prepare MEF packet for distribution with MBMS registration packets.
  • Time commitment estimate:  6 hrs
  • Type of work:  at-home
  • Include in MEF packet:  (1) Annual MEF Membership form and return envelopes (see Envelopes below), and (2) MEF Dollars at Work from previous school year.
  • Submit packet electronically to PUSD Publications (Pubs) for printing (see Publications below)

  • Create scrip packets for distribution on Registration days.

  • Advertise to families during registration and Back-to-School Night, and administer accounts.

August MEF Auction Preparation
  • Annual live/silent auction held in mid‑November.

Carnival
  • Social event to kick-off the new year, welcome new students and families.

  • Ask Assistant Principal or Admin to prepare class rosters of each PE teacher for each period, including student names and 3 blank columns with headings Cash, Check, and Notes to itemize student's donations.

PE-A-Thon
(Phase 2 - Count Money/Get Prizes/ Hold Parties)

(PE Department)
  • PE classes compete for total donations collected and students in patriotic dress and show spirit (parade) judged by Principal and Assistant Principal. Students collect donations from friends and family to win incentives (bring in donations every day) to win incentives (e.g., cross-country passes, field trip to Solid Rock, sweet treats party, pizza party, etc.). Top contributor receives $100 gift certificate to place of their choice.
  • Time commitment estimate:  5 hrs
  • Type of work:  at-school and at‑home
  • Purchase prizes or solicit for donations.
  • Organize sweet treats party, pizza party, including pick-up and delivery and distribution at school.
  • Count money with 4-5 people (see Counting Money below) ).

Coin Drop

(Math Department)
  • Students play a game in Math class by dropping coins into jugs located in each classroom based rules.
  • Time commitment estimate:  10 hrs

  • Distribute rules to teachers and field questions from teachers (Principal)
  • Ask custodian to deliver jugs to the classrooms (Principal)
  • Create flyer and send to Pubs (see (MEF)
  • Advertise on website and email a short callout/flyer to Principal’s Admin by Wednesday night for Principal’s Sunday callouts.
  • Count/deposit money with 4-5 people (see Counting Money below)  ask PTA to solicit volunteers (MEF)
  • Arrange ice cream/sweets party with winning teacher (all periods) during the lunch or class. (MEF)
March U-T Fundraiser
  • Fundraiser for Union-Tribune. Earn $10 per sign-up.
  • Prepare flyer, callout.
  • Track sign-ups.
March, April, and/or May Parent Nights for incoming 5th graders, 6th Grade Academy, and 7th Grade Academy
  • MEF Presence at parent nights
  • Time commitment estimate:  2 hrs per night

Science Challenge


 
  • Science Department fundraiser – creates a science challenge for students.
  • Time commitment estimate:  6 hrs
  • Type of work:  at-home and at-school
 
 
  • Prepare, create and distribute cover letter/envelopes to Science Teacher due 1-2 weeks before challenge (see Envelopes below)
  • Need prizes and class awards for participation.
  • Science teacher distributes advertisements to all science teachers.
  • Science department handles pizza and treats, and Principal calls kids into office to pick prize.
  • Count money with 4-5 people people (see Counting Money below) and ask PTA to solicit volunteers
June (1st week) MEF Turn-Around Luncheon
 
  • Recognize students who turned around during the school year.
  • Principal and staff handle details.
  • MEF helps fund this program  (~$500).
June (2nd week) Year-end student recognitions
 
  • Hold ceremony for each grade level and invite entire class and parents of students receiving recognitions, including:
  • Honor roll
  • ATC (above the crowd)

Publications

Email MEF packet to Pubs workroom before MBMS registration packets are delivered (to get MEF packets there in time, ask Patti Rodis when Pubs will deliver to school and what day they are packing). See Publications Cheat Sheet.

Envelopes

Envelopes (buy at Costco, take copy to be printed on envelopes to Pubs, and ask them to be stapled to flyer).

Counting Money

Count money with 4-5 people (ask PTA to email for volunteers).
