Welcome Back      Bienvenidos

Welcome to a New Year:
2019-2020 Will be Fantastic!

We are so excited for the start of a new school year!  So many amazing opportunities and experiences lie ahead for our Wildcats.  Pomerado’s staff is ready and eager to welcome students, and we remain committed to providing the very best learning environment for each and every student.  We are proud to continue our work as a No Excuses University school, and know that we will work together, refine our exceptional systems, and find solutions to challenges so that each Wildcat is a successful learner.

A variety of programs and resources are ready to ensure students can discover, learn, and grow in a safe and joyful space.  We are in our second year of all grade levels using the Benchmark Language Arts program, and are confident this program is helping students develop and increase their reading skills.   Next Generation Science Standards continue to guide our work in science, as students dig into critical thinking tasks and hands-on experiences.  Our work with the District Voyager program also remains in place, and staff is dedicated to finding ways to give student voice and choice in how they learn and how they show their knowledge.  Opportunities for flexible seating are in place, and help students take responsibility for discovering how they best learn.

Last year we jumped into our new Launch Lab, an innovative space for students to explore new resources and activities (e.g. coding, video production) as they learned about possible careers and working environments.  We are very excited that this work will continue, and include more design thinking challenges.  Once again, OtterCares is recognizing our work and dedication to helping students find their interests and strengths by honoring us with ANOTHER grant for $10,000!  We know this new Inspiration Grant will further our work, and allow us to provide even more opportunities for students to use their strengths to solve real world problems.

In addition to academics, we also want to ensure our students have a safe and inclusive learning environment.  Monthly Kind Cats lessons will continue to help students better understand and use empathy as we choose kind, and reach out to help those in need.  Counseling services are available 5 days a week, and all staff is committed to creating a learning community where everyone is valued and welcomed.

We know parents are such an important part of our learning team, and thank you in advance for your support throughout the year.  Your help takes so many different forms, and we appreciate it more than you know.  Working together, we will make Pomerado an even stronger and cohesive learning community.  I know I will see many of you around school and at family events this year!

On behalf of the entire staff, thank you for sending us your child for the 2019-2020 school year.  We are excited for the coming year, and can’t wait to help each child soar and reach his/her fullest potential. We know we will all unite as a team to Work Hard, Be Kind, and let No Excuse stand in our way to keep our Wildcats firmly on the pathway to college, career, and life readiness.  It’s going to be a fantastic year . . .

GO WILDCATS!
