President's Message

Shelley Baker Dear Morning Creek Families,
I cannot believe that our first day of school is a SHORT 2 days away. I hope that this letter finds you and your family rested, healthy and ready for an amazing school year full of learning, growth and fun. I know that our teachers have been busy preparing for your little ones and so have the PTA, Foundation and our AMAZING new principal, Rhonda Taylor.

2015-2016 is the year of the “new.” You have a new Foundation President, Ron Lewis, who I have met with several times over the summer. He is intelligent, hard working and he wants the best for our students and our teachers. He and his team are busy preparing for an amazing year including an auction in March that will help raise money for technology, PTA Programs, and impact teachers here at MCES. Our school has a new Principal, Rhonda Taylor. She comes to us with experience, leadership and the desire to take Morning Creek Elementary School to the highest level in Education, Technology and Innovation. Then there is me, Shelley Baker, your new PTA President. I am beyond thrilled to be your PTA Leader. PTA stands for parent teacher association, which I am a part of both. Before I was a parent to my 3 children, I was a teacher for 7 years in City Heights. My years in City Heights taught me how valuable a PTA can be to a school and its members. I plan to do everything that I possibly can to help the teachers, the parents, the students and The Foundation make our school successful.

This year we have a lot going on:
Our Fall Fundraiser this year will be a joint fundraiser with the MCES Foundation. We will be raising funds through the wildly successful program, APEX Fun Run. Our goal this year is to profit enough to fund our PTA programs, purchase some additional technology for our students’ classrooms and support our teachers and staff in creating a safe environment for all students to learn.

Please sign your family up for a PTA Membership. Membership costs $12/adult and $7/student. Please remember that your membership does NOT mean mandatory volunteering. The membership fee goes towards the state and national dues and the remaining money goes back to our school. You will be able to complete your membership at Back-to School Night, through your teacher, or at the Back-to School Tailgate.

Running Club will begin on 9/16 for grades 1-5. Kinder Running Club will begin after Winter Break. Running Club is such a great opportunity to get our kids active and social at the same time and start to instill a healthy life-style early. If you have a budding artist and they are interested in entering their work (visual or performing) in our PTA Reflections contest, please know that it will be starting in September. Many other programs, such as Super Colts, Science, Art, Multicultural Night, Family Dance, and many others are in the planning stages and we can’t wait to share all the fun with every single one of you. I look forward to meeting you and working with you all to build a solid, safe and healthy community.
