Welcome to Morning Creek! 
My name is Rhonda Taylor and I am proud to be the principal of this wonderfully active educational community. I have been in education for 25 years and during this time I have been a classroom teacher, an assistant principal at the middle school level, and an elementary principal for many years. I have a passion for educational technology and bring that passion with me to Morning Creek Elementary. I am a life-long learner with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Development and Instruction, and I am currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership with a focus on technology.

Morning Creek Elementary enjoys a long-standing tradition of educational excellence and outstanding academic achievements that have prepared our students for future academic success. Morning Creek offers a full spectrum of educational experiences and opportunities by providing an engaging curriculum with a focus on the 21st century learning skills that will prepare our students for college and career. These educational opportunities will provide multiple pathways for accessing the four C’s of the 21stCentury Learning skills: collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

At Morning Creek, teachers work with the staff and parents to prepare students academically and socially to be productive and successful. It is our goal to promote students who are engaged and eager to continue their educational path. We take pride in our affiliation with the No Excuses University and helping our students internalize the philosophy that after high school comes college.  We enjoy and promote parent partnerships through various programs and school community activities.

Morning Creek has a culturally diverse student population. We encourage cultural pride, and celebrate the wonderful similarities and differences among the members of our campus community. We want your child to have a wonderful school year filled with learning, friendships and memories that will endure for years to come.

Summer Office Hours: The office is open August 6th-8th from 8:30-12:30. August 11th-19th the office hours will be 9:00-1:00 pm. Starting August 20th, the office hours will be 8:15 am - 3:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursdays, office hours will be 8:15 am - 2:00 pm.

The following information should answer many of your questions regarding the start of school.
School Begins on Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Kindergarten Schedule
Transitional Days- August 20, 2014- September 26, 2014 8:45-12:45 pm
Beginning September 29, 2014, the Kindergarten students will begin the same schedule as Grades 1-5 below:

Grades 1-5 Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:45-3:05
Thursday (Time Banking Day) 8:45-1:25

TK Schedule
Daily (Monday-Friday) 8:45-12:05
Classroom Assignments
Classroom assignments will be posted in front of the school on Tuesday, August 19th at 4:00 pm. PTA will also be providing popsicles for students who arrive for the posting. It is possible that these assignments may change due to changes in enrollment.
Before School Supervision
The playground will be open to students in the morning beginning at 8:25 am. No supervision will be provided before 8:25 am so students should not arrive at school before this time unattended. Once students arrive, they may not leave unless a parent or other authorized person comes to the office to sign them out. To ensure the safety of our children, you will be required to show identification when you pick up your child.
Visitor/Volunteer
To ensure the safety of our students and to maximize learning, Morning Creek is a closed campus after 8:45 am. We will open the gates at dismissal for parents to pick their child up from school. Anyone who wants to come on campus after the bell rings must come and check in at the office. In order to visit a classroom, you must make prior arrangements with the child's teacher.. All visitors/volunteers must sign in at the computer to receive a visitor's badge. Please wear the appropriate badge while you are on campus. Before you are able to volunteer on our campus, you must have all paperwork completed, including Megan's Law, TB verification, and a signed Volunteer Code of Conduct. Please check out at the computer when leaving school. This will give us an accurate number of who is on campus during our routine drills or in case of an emergency.
School Lunch- Prices
Students have the option of buying lunch at school. Please prepay if possible. Lunch is served daily in the cafeteria for $2.75 and includes milk. Students can purchase milk separately for $.75. If you purchase juice, this is an extra cost of $.50. Free and reduced prices are available for those who qualify. Families need to reapply each year before September 30th. Medication at School
If your child is on medication, a "Physician's Recommendation for Medication" form must be obtained from the school, completed by the physician, and returned to school. No medication may be given at school without this form. An adult must bring the mediation to the school office in the original container medication is dispensed. Children may never have medication in their possession at school. This included aspirin, inhalers, cough drops, etc.
Bicycle Riding
Only students in grades 3, 4, and 5 may ride a bicycle to school. Children must wear a helmet, provide a lock for the bicycle, and follow safety rules/laws. A permission form, obtained from the office, must be completed and on file with the office for students who wish to ride their bikes to school. Bikes must be walked once on school grounds. No rollerblades, razors, scooters, or skateboards are allowed on campus.
Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up
When dropping off and picking up students in the parking circle please drive all the way around the outer edge of the circle then pull all the way forward to drop off/pick up your child at the curb. Do not let your child out of the car until you are stopped at the edge of the curb. Never leave your car unattended in the loading zone. We have staff to help keep the flow of traffic moving. If you need to enter the school campus for any reason, please park your car in a designated space in the lot or on the street. Please do not park in an unassigned spot or in the red zone as it blocks our incoming busses.
Extended Student Services
Morning Creek provides an ESS program, which is a fee-based before and after school childcare program. ESS is open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. All students planning to participate in ESS must be registered at our ESS building. Please call our coordinator, ESS Supervisor Lynnette Hamilton at (858) 748-1497, for information regarding registration and fees.
Peachjar
Morning Creek has gone paperless. All flyers can be accessed on our Morning Creek Page. All you have to do go to www.peachjar.com to sign up. You will see school supply lists, outside organizations, PTA/Foundation information etc. Please support our school and the environment by supporting Peachjar.
Facebook page
Morning Creek has launched a Facebook page. This is another form of communication that will allow families to stay connected. The principal will be posting these types of status updates (school activities, announcements, events, classroom instruction, emergency information, etc.) throughout the weeks. If you choose not to have your child featured on the Morning Creek Elementary School Facebook page, you will need to print out the flyer on Peachjar and turn it in at the front office.
Remind 101
Remind 101 is a one way texting/email tool to get reminders or change of schedule message out to you immediately. All you have to do is opt in by texting (760) 563-5212 and typing @morningcr in the message box to start receiving messages.
