The Extended Student Services (ESS) Program extends Poway Unified School District's educational program into the hours before and after school, and during school vacations, for elementary school aged children. ESS provides a comprehensive program of developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities. ESS is fee based. Check out the fee schedule in the vertical menu on the right. Please contact the ESS Supervisor at your child's school for information or to enroll. See the ESS Websites by clicking on ESS Sites in the side menu.
ESS is a voluntary use program. All PUSD elementary schools have an Extended Student Services program on their campus. Our organization works diligently to accommodate and serve working families in need of before and after school care. A student's enrollment at an elementary school does not guarantee them ESS enrollment. As a growing organization, each ESS site may experience limitations that factor into the enrollment capacity and may prohibit the acceptance of additional students at any given time.

Welcome to the ESS (Extended Student Services) website! Whether we are currently serving your child in the ESS program or whether you are looking for assistance with future planning, we hope that you can find the information that you need on this website. We serve over 4,000 students within 26 elementary schools in the Poway Unified School District by actively engaging them in educational, physical, social and character-building activities before/after school and during most school breaks. We are committed to the highest levels of safety during your children’s time with us where they will benefit from a low student-to-adult ratio. Our staff members have been well-trained, have received clearances with their health and through the Dept. of Justice. Feel free to stop by the ESS program at your local school to meet the supervisor, the lead assistant and the program aides. I’m sure you’ll agree that they are fun-loving, positive, motivational and taking great care of all children in the program.
The ESS program is an extension of the school day. We have a wonderful homework support time during before/after school ESS where staff will support students with their classwork. We work closely with our school sites so that ESS is always an extension of the school day. We also work with principals to make sure that the School Safety Plan is in effect during all hours of ESS.
Thank you for entrusting your children to our care. When you meet our ESS staff, you’ll notice that they are professionals who serve many needs of children throughout the day, whether it’s listening to a child’s story, wiping a nose, helping with a homework problem, playing a game of kick ball, answering the phone or greeting you with a smile at the door when you pick up your child ~ we are dedicated to the best care for your child.
We value our partnership with home, school and ESS. Please feel free to communicate with us if there is any way that we can help your family. Thank you for entrusting us with your children’s care! Barbara Scholl email@example.com Director, Extended Student Services Poway Unified School District
