Message from the Principal
Abraxas is a wonderful school supported both by the communities of Poway and Rancho Bernardo, and our district office. There has recently been a concerted focus to help us continue leading the way as we provide a different model of education to help every student be College and Career ready. Our alternative learning model includes a year round calendar, adjusted bell schedule, reduced class size, a homeroom class that focuses on an individual learning plan for each student, and no mandatory homework. The small campus also allows us to catch students who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Our structure helps those who feel overwhelmed on the larger campuses in our district find success.
This is an exciting time at Abraxas as we evolve to meet the growing needs of our 21st century learners. We recently had all of our technology upgraded on campus, and the teachers have all switched over to using MyConnect. At Abraxas, we have embraced the Common Core standards and are always looking for ways to improve our curriculum. We are creating Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways for our students by building partnerships with Palomar College and local business to further student’s education beyond our school's walls. We are reaching out more to the students, parents, and community members on what they want from Abraxas.
Abraxas is a continuation high school that also houses a critical needs Transition Program on its grounds. We are working to unite two programs on our campus though mentoring and tutoring opportunities. As far as I am concerned, Abraxas is both programs, and the more contact each set of students have with one another the more learning opportunities can occur. The diploma-bound students are volunteering more and more in the transition classrooms where awareness and friendship is developed, and Transition students have been getting more and more involved in the daily operation of the school; from being the color guard for raising the flag, morning announcements, taking on office and custodial duties, running the student store, and our recycle program.
If you are interested in seeing the great things we do at Abraxas, please do not hesitate to call and schedule a tour or meeting to have all your questions answered. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (858) 748-5900 to set something up.
I love Abraxas, and I know you will too.
