Important Reminders and Upcoming Events 3/24/17

It’s almost time for the 6th annual Spelling Bee! The event will be held in the Sunset Hills multipurpose room on Wednesday, April 19th at 5:00 pm.  We will hold a practice session in the MPR on Thursday, April 6th from 1:15 to 2:15 pm.  All students in grades 1 through 5 are invited to participate in this free event.  If your student would like to participate, please sign and return the permission form to your child’s classroom teacher or to the office BY MONDAY, MARCH 27th. The registration form is available on Peachjar and the Spelling Bee website at

Students in grades 3-5 will be taking the CAASP (SBAC) between the dates of April 24th through May 2nd.  Thank you for making sure your child is at school on time. Absenteeism during the test period creates problems for students. Those who miss testing sessions with their regular class will be given make-up sessions in supervised small group settings. However, most students prefer to take the test along with their classmates, and do much better in a setting with their own teacher.

Please join Mrs. Ziegler for a TRRFCC Parent Coffee Chat in the multipurpose room directly after the TRRFCC Thursday assembly at 8:45 am.  Come see what your students are learning during  X-ploration.  There will also be handouts and prizes on having a Growth Mind Set.

The classroom basket flyer was sent out on Peachjar this week.  Please turn in donations to the office by May 12th.  Below is a list of items by grade level we are requesting in order to make the baskets.

TK/Kindergarten: popcorn, snacks, movie theater tickets, movies, RedBox gift cards, etc.

First Grade: Drawing or sketch pad, watercolor set, colored pencil set, pipe cleaners, foam craft sets, wooden craft sticks, glitter glue, Shrinky Dinks, gift card to Michael’s, sidewalk chalk, etc.

Second Grade: Water toys, sporting equipment, beach balls, lawn or beach games, gift card to Sports Authority or Play it Again Sports, pool toys, books, stuff for s’mores, etc.
Third Grade: Cake mixes, brownie mixes, cookie mixes, cook books, pans, bowls, supplies, etc.

Fourth Grade: Hose, shovels, gloves, plant seeds, gift cards to Armstrong/Home Depot, etc.

Fifth Grade: Card games, board games, puzzles, or snacks to eat while playing, etc.
Head over to and register to help give our school a chance to win 10,000 box tops, which is the equivalent of $1,000. You can register every day until April 8th.  Also, if you play the Monopoly game at VONS, check the slips as some are winners and if turned in to the school, will earn an additional 10 box tops, or $1. The certificates expire in May so make sure to get them in before then. Keep on collecting!
Save the date! Our annual Sunset Hills Family Auction and Picnic will be held on Friday, May 19th at
5:00 pm in the multipurpose room. This is a fundraiser for Sunset Hills Education Foundation. There will be food (Pizza, Tacos, and Kona Ice), games, a silent auction, and entertainment. The whole family is encouraged to attend. This is your chance to bid on items like a birthday shout out on the school Marquee, Principal for the day, and the coveted reserved parking spots.
There are also donations from the community that are part of the silent auction and at this time we are making a call for donations.  If you know a business (or own a small business) and would like to donated, please email Lucien at
Have you ever come to school and realized that you had forgotten that it was a school spirit day? Would you like to be reminded when there is an event happening at school? There is an app that allows Principal Ziegler to send out texts when there is a change in schedule, reminders or emergencies.  All you have to do is “Opt” in by sending a message to (434) 473-7316.  In the message box, type @allshe.  Follow the text prompt and you will start receiving messages.  Standard text message rates apply.

Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1st and September 1st, 2017, who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, MUST place their name on a District Interest Wait List. After March 1, 2017 at 8:00 AM, go to the District Website and select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list. The assigned TK school site will notify parents on the Interest List starting in June, or later in the summer, of an opening in TK. The parent will then be given 48 hours to enroll. Due to increased numbers of students required to enroll in TK, please note space is very limited and will be determined on a first-come, first served basis.
