VIDEO GAME PLAYING CONCERNS
Navigating the video game worlds of our children can be overwhelming and confusing! Come join us for a conversation with a community therapist and a life coach about ways to relate to your children and their video gaming habits. We will be discussing tools and communication skills to assist parents in addressing possible video game playing concerns. As mother and son we offer a unique perspective on this topic. We have firsthand experience of the communication between parents and children concerning video game playing.

Please be sure to bring the following ORIGINAL documents with you upon enrollment:

As required by State law, all children entering Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2017.  If your child's birthday is between September 2, 2017 and December 2, 2017, they will be enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten.

CAASP TESTING (SBAC) APRIL 24th - May 2nd
Students in grades 3-5 will be taking the CAASP (SBAC) between the dates of April 24th through May 2nd.  Thank you for making sure your child is at school on time. Absenteeism during the test period creates problems for students. Those who miss testing sessions with their regular class will be given make-up sessions in supervised small group settings. However, most students prefer to take the test along with their classmates, and do much better in a setting with their own teacher.

SBAC Test Schedule
On the following days, these classes will be testing and will be done before noon.

WELCOME NEW STUDENT SERVICES ASSISTANT
Welcome Toni Hier to the Sunset Hills family.  She will be the Student Services Assistant for the remainder of the year.  Mrs. Lovasz has taken a position as a counselor in the district.  We wish her well.

PASTA FOR PENNIES
The Sunset Hills Student Council would like to thank our entire community of parents, students, and teachers for helping to raise over $4,000.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.  Congratulations to our top class, Ms. Tettamble's 3rd grade class, for raising $598.  We had 7 other classes raise over $300.00 for this fundraiser.  The true winners of this fundraiser, however, are the people who we have helped, people with blood cancer, people who are trying to live a normal life, people who are looking for hope.  If we have helped just one of these people, than we have made a difference. Our school goal was to collect $3,000 dollars for cancer research, and we did it with $4,773.00 dollars!  Congratulations to everyone who donated their money to help find a cure.  We could not have done it without your help.  Thanks for your support.

PRESENTERS NEEDED FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER DAY!
We are looking for individuals to be presenters at this year's College and Career day which is on Thursday, May 25th from 9-11 am.  Presenters will talk about the college they attended or share about their current career.  There is a slideshow template you can use to create your presentation.  We need at least 20 presenters for this event to be a success.  Please email Nicole Goebel nic323@yahoo.com or Krisha Benavides always.krisha.b@gmail.com if you are interested.

REMIND
Have you ever come to school and realized that you had forgotten that it was a school spirit day? Would you like to be reminded when there is an event happening at school? There is an app that allows Principal Ziegler to send out texts when there is a change in schedule, reminders or emergencies.  All you have to do is “Opt” in by sending a message to (434) 473-7316.  In the message box, type @allshe.  Follow the text prompt and you will start receiving messages.  Standard text message rates apply.
TK INTEREST WAIT LIST INFORMATION
Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1st and September 1st, 2017, who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, MUST place their name on a District Interest Wait List. After March 1, 2017 at 8:00 AM, go to the District Website and select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list. The assigned TK school site will notify parents on the Interest List starting in June, or later in the summer, of an opening in TK. The parent will then be given 48 hours to enroll. Due to increased numbers of students required to enroll in TK, please note space is very limited and will be determined on a first-come, first served basis.
