HIGHLAND HAPPENINGS:
Calling for EAR Tutors!!  We are looking to build our EAR Team for the next school year.  Everyone a Reader (EAR) is a volunteer tutoring program to help 1st and 2nd grade students who are reading just under their grade level.  Volunteers are asked to give only ONE HOUR only ONE DAY per week. The program will run Monday - Thursday, 8am - 9am.   This would allow 4 students to be assisted by each volunteer each day.  If one should want, there is also the possibility of volunteering on more days during the week.  But we only ask for the one day / one hour commitment.  If you are interested in joining us or have any questions, please contact Elise Pala at elisetp@yahoo.com
TK Interest Wait List Information:
Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1st and September 1st, 2017 who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, MUST place their name on a District Interest Wait List. After March 1, 2016, at 8:00 AM, go to the District Website and select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list.  Please enroll in kindergarten as well on May 4TH.
 
HELP DEVELOP YOUR CHILD’S LOVE OF READING
Highland Ranch Family Reading Night, Thursday, April 27, 2017, 5:30 to 6:30 in the Library.
Did you know that reading aloud to your child is the number 1 thing you can do to help your child succeed at school from kindergarten to 12th grade?
Mrs. Ellen Phaneuf, Highland Ranch teacher, will explain these benefits and several others at our Family Reading Night.  She will describe how to go about reading aloud in ways to benefit your child throughout his/her school career.    Pizza will be provided at a discounted price of $1 a slice!  There will be free childcare for children ages five and above.  You must RSVP to attend.* Flyers were sent home this week, and an additional copy is attached.   For more information email Mrs. Venolia at cvenolia@powayusd.com
 
FOUNDATION NEWS
It's the final Countdown....be sure to get your tickets to the Foundation's Silent/Live Auction. This fun event is Saturday, April 29th from 6-10PM at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. We hope all the parents in our Highland Ranch community join us! Tickets cost $25 and include food, bidding, and fun! Our auction is filled with fun activities your family regularly does with bid prices starting as low as $20. All the proceeds from this event go directly toward funding programs that enhance your child's educational experience at Highland Ranch. Get in on the fun and enjoy an adult night out winning prizes and helping to fund science, PE, and technology for your child next year.

Absentee Bidding is now open!  If you are unable to attend the auction on April 29th, you can still bid on your classroom art projects, teacher experiences, and/or front row seats to the 5th grade promotion ceremony via absentee bid.

Include your contact information on what item(s) you are bidding, and the amount you would like to bid.  Please, no bids below $40.  All bids must be in increments of $10.
The deadline to submit absentee bids is noon on Thursday, April 27.

Seeking Talented and Helpful People:  Highland Ranch “Rolodex" Survey

PTA NEWS
 
The Spring Boutique is coming to HRES this May 5th.  It will be the perfect opportunity to buy gifts for Mother's day, Father's day and end of the year teacher gifts.
 
We are looking for vendors to sell at the event.  Table fees will be $20 and a donated item to raffle.  
 
To reserve your space please contact Erin Tavernier at ekgormandesigns@gmail.com.  It will be first come first served for same brand selling.
 
Book Fair News
Next week is our BOGO Book Fair...that's right, its buy one get one FREE!  Class visits are on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.  Please ask your child's teacher for their visit time.  As always, please feel free to come, shop with your child during this time.  If you can't, we are also open after school on Tuesday (1:45-2:15) and for Family Night on Thursday from 4:30-7.  No need to worry about dinner on Thursday night because the Choir will be selling pizza and drinks.         
 
We can't do it without the help of volunteers.  It's fun & easy!  There are so many different ways to help...helping a student find a book they love and are excited about reading, helping make the most of the BOGO offer, straightening up after our young classes visit, setting up the fair, and breaking it down.  Please click to sign up (http://signup.com/go/kP7V9L) or talk to one of the Book Fair Committee members.   
  
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up!  We have a SUNsational week planned to celebrate our wonderful teachers at Highland Ranch!
 
The fun starts Monday May 1st with a Hawaiian BBQ lunch hosted by the PTA! The room mom's will have already left a memento on the door andwill be making a Bouquet for our teachers! Please have your student bring a flower to show their appreciation.
 
On Tuesday, there will be fountains of chocolate flowing in the teachers lounge. We need your student to bring the treats to be dipped into the fountain:
K-marshmallows
1st grade-Pineapple
2nd grade-Pretzels
3rd grade-Bananas
4th grade-Strawberries
5th grade-Strawberries
**Please drop your items off in the staff lounge in the morning**
 
As you hula into school on Wednesday wear your teachers' favorite color! 
For breakfast, chic-fil-A biscuits, fruit, and gluten free cinnamon rolls will be served to our AMAZING staff!
 
Thursday the class will make a fruit basket for their teacher.  Please bring a piece of fruit for the basket. And lunch will be served....
 
Last but not least, have your child show their appreciation for their sunsational teacher by bringing a THANK YOU CARD for your teacher! Yearbook Info
The 2016-17 Yearbook requires your input. We are quickly approaching our deadline and we are missing pictures from many school events such as Mother-Son Bowling, Science Fair, APEX Fun Run, Walk to School, and  plus more.  We also need classroom photos. Right now, there are many classrooms with NO photos. We would love ALL of the classrooms to be featured. Below is a list of classes we are missing photos.

If you have pictures from any of the above events and from the classes, please upload them ASAP to the Treering Website to be published.  Attached are flyers with step by step instructions on how to sign up for Treering, how to create your free customized pages, and how to add pictures to the shared community folders. You do not have to create folders. Please add your photos to the folders that are already created. For every yearbook sold, Treering plants a tree! Yearbook News
The Yearbook Committee will take art work submissions to be published in this year's book. The theme for the Yearbook art is "DISNEY".  All entries must be done on letter size paper. The last day to submit your work is Friday, April 7, 2017.  Drop your artwork in the yearbook Art mailbox that will placed in the office. Help us make this yearbook colorful, cheerful and spectacular with your imagination and creativity. 
Note: Yearbook Committee will try our best to include as many artwork submissions. However, due to space limitations, not all artwork can be featured. If you have any questions, please contact the Yearbook Committee. 
In order to purchase a Highland Ranch yearbook, you will need to order online and they will NOT be sold at school. Each family has the option to personalize 2 pages for your student’s yearbook. You can go to www.TreeRing.com/validate and enter the school code 1013489799753947 to order. The last date for ordering Yearbooks is Sunday, Apr 30, 2017.
