HIGHLAND HAPPENINGS

PIZZA, PARENTS, AND PARTICIPATION!  YOUR VOICE COUNTS!  We want to know how we can enhance our rigorous and engaging learning experiences for all our students in a safe, caring learning environment.  Community input is a necessary part of this process and we need you to make it happen!  Students will enjoy a movie in the MPR with pizza and popcorn.  Parents will meet to help set the course for the future of Poway Unified and our school.  This event is completely free of charge!  It’s on Thursday, February 9 from 6:00 to 7:30.  You must RSVP for this event.  Please go to  http://evite.me/wbPzwVtqwf

SCHOOLYARD HABITAT WORKSHOP
Please join us for a workshop to learn how to use your schoolyard as an outdoor classroom and to incorporate curriculum and nature into outdoor learning. Presentations will focus on (1) planning the native plant garden in your schoolyard; (2) selecting the plants, planting and maintaining native plants, and (3) using the schoolyard habitat for nature-based learning.  We will be meeting in Linda Rasmussen's room-Room 1.  OPEN TO INTERESTED TEACHERS, PARENTS, AFTER-SCHOOL PROVIDERS AND STAFF.  Register at the following link (you may need to cut and paste this event reminder into your browser):

Spell-A-Thon
I hope you all have been studying those Spell-A-Thon words. Don't forget the Spell-a-Thon is on Friday, January 20th.

In addition to studying don't forget to ask your friends and family to pledge to support your quest to get that 100%. Remember, the one student who turns in the most money by February 10th will rule the school and become principal for the day. As a reminder parents, all money earned will go towards the funding of the science and PE programs.

Don't forget our other fabulous prizes! Just turning in your pledge sheet on January 19th will enter you into a drawing to win a pass to Get Air. Visit the "Queen Bee" when she is walking around campus for a chance to win more prizes and if we reach our goal of raising $13,000 the entire school will get to enjoy a pajama day.  Good Luck Stallions!

We are still in need of volunteers to help the day of the Spell-A-Thon, Friday, January 20th.  If you are available on that day we’d love your help. Click here:  http://signup.com/go/iZ7ruJ to sign up.
