IMPORTANT MESSAGE from the PTA on Budget

Dear Families of Garden Road Elementary School,

I ask for a minute of your time to read this email as it does affect your child. This evening I attended a meeting with members of the PUSD Board of Education (Mr. Charles Sellers and Ms. Christina Paik) and other PTA Presidents from schools in our district. Good news first, PUSD is ranked 10th in California as one of the best school districts. Here comes the bad news, over the next two years the Governor has implemented a deep educational cut ($506 Million Dollars) and because PUSD is the 3rd lowest funded in San Diego County the cut hits significantly hard. Over the next two years PUSD will have to cut $24.5 million dollars from its budget. According to the PUSD Board this evening, they are looking at all funding avenues and the impact this cut will mean to all the schools.

So how can you help? The district has asked you to do the following:

  1. Complete the LCAP that our Principal has asked us to complete.

  2. Make sure your child is in school, EVERY DAY. Student attendance directly ties to funding.

  3. If you’re a qualifying family please, please, fill out the application for free or reduced school lunches.

  4. To ask questions and gain more information please contact the PUSD Board of Education Budget Committee via email at PUSDBudget@powayusd.com.

We will work to do our best to continue the educational programs for our children at our school as well as others in PUSD.  Your membership to the PTA provides us this voice and I appreciate all you do.

Jim Sytsma President GRES PTA
